1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how Zorquorianroyalcourt Ltd uses cookies and similar storage technologies on zorquorianroyalcourt.com (the “Site”), which supports the Zorquorianroyalcourt hotel-casino located in Whangārei, New Zealand. It sets out what these technologies are, why we use them, the choices available to you and how you can manage or withdraw your consent at any time.
This Policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes in full how we handle personal data collected through the Site and through your stay or visit at our property. Together, these documents form part of our commitment to transparent data practices under New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 and applicable guidance from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
By continuing to browse the Site after being presented with our consent notice, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy. You are not required to accept optional cookies in order to access the core content of the Site.
4. Categories of Cookies We Use
The table below sets out each category, its purpose, whether it requires your consent and the typical retention period.
| Category | Purpose | Consent Required? | Typical Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary | Essential to the operation of the Site. These enable core functions such as page navigation, security, load balancing and access to areas that require authentication. The Site cannot function properly without them. | No – these are placed on the basis of legitimate interest in operating a functional and secure website. | Session to 12 months |
| Functional / Preference | Allow the Site to remember choices you make (such as language preference or region) to provide a more personalised experience. They do not track your activity on other websites. | Yes – placed only after you accept this category. | Up to 12 months |
| Analytics / Performance | Help us understand how visitors use the Site by collecting aggregated information about page visits, time spent, navigation paths and error encounters. This allows us to improve Site content and structure. | Yes – placed only after you accept this category. | Session to 24 months |
| Marketing / Targeting | Used to present content relevant to your interests based on your browsing activity. May also be used to measure the effectiveness of promotional campaigns relating to hotel and casino services. | Yes – placed only after you accept this category. | Up to 24 months |
Optional categories — Functional, Analytics and Marketing — remain switched off by default. They are activated only when you provide explicit consent through our cookie preference centre.
5. Cookie Duration
Cookies fall into two broad duration types:
- Session cookies – these exist only while your browser is open. They are automatically deleted when you close your browser and do not persist to future visits.
- Persistent cookies – these remain on your device for a defined period, or until you delete them. The applicable period depends on the cookie’s purpose and is indicated in the duration column of the table in Section 4.
Persistent cookies placed by us for optional purposes will not remain active beyond the periods stated in that table. Where a cookie’s lifetime is determined by a third-party provider, their retention schedule applies and is described in their own privacy or cookie documentation.
6. Your Consent Choices
When you first visit the Site, a cookie consent notice is displayed. This notice allows you to:
- Accept all cookies, including optional categories;
- Reject all optional cookies, allowing only strictly necessary cookies to be placed; or
- Open the preference centre to select which optional categories you wish to enable on a category-by-category basis.
Your preference is recorded and respected throughout your visit. If you return to the Site on a different device or after clearing your browser data, the consent notice will be presented again.
We do not consider scrolling, closing the notice banner or continuing to browse as consent to optional cookies. Consent to optional categories is given only through a clear affirmative action within the consent interface.
7. Withdrawing or Changing Your Consent
You may withdraw or adjust your consent at any time. To do so, use the “Cookie Preferences” link available in the footer of every page on the Site. This reopens the preference centre, where you can enable or disable any optional category.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of any processing that took place before withdrawal. After withdrawal, cookies in the deselected categories will no longer be placed during future browsing. Cookies already stored on your device from a period of prior consent can be removed using your browser controls as described in Section 8.
Please allow a short period for systems to apply your updated preferences across all Site functions.
8. Managing Cookies Through Your Browser
All major browsers provide built-in controls that allow you to view, manage, block or delete cookies independently of any consent mechanism on the Site. The settings are typically found under “Privacy”, “Security” or “History” in your browser’s preferences or options menu.
Guidance for commonly used browsers can be found at the following links:
Please be aware that blocking or deleting strictly necessary cookies may affect the functionality of the Site and prevent certain features from working as intended. We cannot guarantee the availability of all Site features if essential cookies are disabled.
Browser-level settings operate separately from the Site’s preference centre. Using both in combination gives you the fullest control over cookies on your device.
9. Third-Party Cookies and External Services
Some cookies placed in connection with the Site originate from third-party service providers rather than directly from Zorquorianroyalcourt Ltd. These providers may set cookies to support functions such as analytics, embedded content, mapping services or promotional activity.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that third-party providers used in connection with optional cookie categories operate under appropriate data processing agreements and published privacy standards. However, we do not control the content or conduct of third-party websites or services that you may access via links on the Site, and we are not responsible for the cookies or privacy practices of those external destinations.
Where a third-party provider processes personal data by means of cookies on our Site, that provider acts as a data processor or independent controller as appropriate. You are encouraged to review the privacy and cookie documentation of any third party whose services are relevant to your use of the Site. Such documentation is available directly from the relevant provider.
Third-party cookies in optional categories are only activated after you have given your consent to the relevant category in the preference centre.
10. Cookies and Personal Data
Some cookies collect or are associated with personal data — for example, an identifier that can be linked to a guest profile or a record of pages viewed during a logged-in session. Where cookies are used to process personal data, that processing is governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes the legal bases, your rights and our retention practices in full.
We do not use cookies to process special-category personal data through the Site.
Data collected through analytics or marketing cookies is, where possible, aggregated or pseudonymised to reduce direct identification. Where data is transferred outside New Zealand in connection with a third-party service, we take steps to ensure an adequate level of protection consistent with the Privacy Act 2020.
11. Updates to This Policy
We review this Cookie Policy periodically and update it when our practices change, when new technologies are introduced on the Site, or when legal or regulatory requirements are revised. The date at the top of this page reflects when the Policy was last updated.
Where a change is material — for example, if we introduce a new category of cookie or change the purpose for which an existing category is used — we will present the consent notice again so that you have the opportunity to review and confirm your preferences under the revised terms.
We encourage you to revisit this page from time to time to remain informed about how we use cookies.
